Haiti Trip Short Term Missions Trip 2010

48 hours till we leave but a phone call may change it all. Three phone calls later, we would be going, just to a different place. God’s plans are bigger. Let’s see where he leads. Friday, what have we forgotten? Saturday, up and ready. “God prepare us – make us physically strong, spiritually stronger, and may we serve you and bring you glory.” We arrive, pick up our baggage without anyone being stopped or checked. Praise God! The sight of tent cities are overwhelming with the sense of dread and hopelessness everywhere. Sunday, Mission of Hope seems well organized – God is in this place. Monday, construction begins roofing a building. The dental crew has its own hole in the corner, and Alyssa is partnered with an ER doctor. Tuesday, rain has kept things cool, but last night was hot! Wednesday, up at 5:00AM to beat the heat. The construction group finished one job and on to the next. Thursday, between the dental and medical, there are over 125 patients per day treated. It is unnerving to see wounds that haven’t healed due to poor water quality. Friday, the team will complete their assignments this morning and we will travel to the orphanage near Mesaille where we were originally to go. We are awed by the poverty and living conditions that seem everyday here. “GOD, forgive us for being ungrateful, and forgive us for not caring about the needs of those around us, both near and far!” Saturday, wake up at 4:30AM and depart to airport at 5:30AM. God has provided abundantly this week and taught us many things. Be attentive to what the Lord has blessed you with, including those things you didn’t even realize you were taking for granted!

To hear more, attend the Praise and Worship Service on August 15th when a report on Haiti will be presented.

The Pastor’s Pen

February is our “normal” missions emphasis month here at Trinity. But August is going to feel like another “missions month,” and that is good. A mid-year return to this love of the Lord and of our church is healthy and right. By the time you read this, we will have already heard from Dr. Tom Wright, who speaks (spoke) to us on Sunday evening, August 1, at our Sunday Evening Worship. Tom and Lucy and their girls serve in West Africa. Tom is a medical doctor, but his primary work has been in church planting, and in teaching pastors. His knowledge of the Muslim world is extensive and timely. Trinity has supported Tom and Lucy for quite a few years, and it is always good to welcome him back.

On Sunday, August 8, Jerry Wells will preach for us at the morning service, and then be with us that evening to report on his work in Romania and Moldova, countries in Eastern Europe. Jerry and Meda and their daughters have been faithful in teaching and developing church leaders and pastors for years. How good to have them with us for this Sunday, as Jerry has also been busy seeing and speaking in other churches which support him. It is not easy to do what Jerry and Tom do in visiting their supporting people. It is part of the challenge of keeping in contact for our missionaries. Pray for their health, stamina, and energy. This may be “time away,” but it is not “time out,” or some kind of vacation for them. It is a labor of love for them. Keeping with the theme, on Sunday evening, August 15, at our regularly scheduled Praise and Worship hour, the Trinity Short-Term Missions Team who went to Haiti in July will report on their trip. Not to steal their thunder, but the trip was a type of pleasant surprise for the team members, compared to the experience of our church team earlier in the decade to Haiti. Not that there has been vast improvement in that hurricane-ravaged land. Instead, there was a freedom of service that they “enjoyed” which they may not have expected. Come hear their hearts for Haiti on that evening.

Even though he is not a “foreign missionary,” John Paul (JP) Sibley will be with us on Sunday, August 22, to preach, and then to speak to the Men of Trinity that Monday evening, the 23rd for our first of three Fall Men’s meetings. Like Jerry Wells, JP is a son of Trinity, and an assistant pastor at the Redeemer PCA Church at Travelers Rest, above Greenville.

So, a lot to look forward to in August at Trinity. Hope you will take advantage of these good opportunities, and good speakers. God has blessed Trinity with faithful contacts for Christ. It is both humbling for us, and a joy for us, to support these ministries over the years. This is our way to keep reaching out for our Lord with His gospel of salvation and life. We see in his Bible letters, how the apostle Paul had comrades in the faith, and how he kept up with the churches whom he helped start and disciple. We can do something of that today by welcoming with our attendance and prayers and finances those who go and minister where we don’t live.

All of this is for Christ’s glory, and so that He will come back just as soon as He wills. Let’s do all we can to hasten His coming! John

A New Trinity Ministry

Several retired men from our church have formed a group called Trinity Shuttle. The purpose of this group is to assist members in our church who need transportation to hospitals, grocery stores, and other extreme needs. If you need this type of service, please call the church office or let Rev. John Ropp know of your request. If you have any questions concerning this new group, please call Bob Beckett.

“Year in Review” Celebration

A slide presentation is being prepared for viewing at the Year in Review on August 22, 2010. If you have some pictures of an event held in our church during the past year that you would like to share, please turn them in to Mark Summers, Dan Steffen, or Elaine Stroman. These pictures will be returned to you.
The Year In Review will begin with hot dogs and trimmings from 6:00 to 6:45 followed by a slideshow from 6:45 – 7:15. At 7:15 there will be the Homemade Ice Cream Contest with the coveted “Golden Scoop Award” being presented if your home- made ice cream is the BEST. A signup sheet is on the information counter.
